AYACUCHO – MAMERTO SANCHEZ – CERAMICA – PERU.

The artisans of Quinua (Ayacucho, Peru) use a clay that when burned takes on a reddish tone and a solid consistency and they decorate their pieces with floral motifs and sheaves of wheat based on slips of white and reddish clay.
Mamerto Sánchez belongs to this pottery tradition and preserves not only the material and technical resources, but also the universe of mythical and Christian beings as well as the peasant scenes that populate its production.

Born into a family of potters, Mamerto learned the art of ceramics from his father Santos Sánchez and especially from his grandfather Don Francisco Sánchez. Currently he shares his time between Quinua and Lima (Peru). In 2000 he received the distinction of Grand Master of Peruvian Crafts.
